Dear Parents
The first years of school life at Banks Lane are of vital importance. School needs your interest and support so that your child will achieve as much as possible during these formative years.
The teaching staff appreciates the help that parents can give (in and outside of school) encouraging their child to take an active part in the life of the school. We have a number of parents who come into school to help with cookery, gardening, library and art. Parents are always welcome and we would love more helpers.
There can be no true understanding unless our aims and expectations have some common ground. Parents are welcome to see our guidelines and policies on all school or curriculum related issues. Your ideas and views are greatly valued.
I look forward to your support and understanding to ensure that our children learn to meet the needs of the future. Your positive response to school is vital when ensuring that a child's time is happy, profitable and successful.
Parental Involvement
The best way to make a valid assessment of our aims and our methods is to visit the school, see the classes at work and talk to the teachers. Your child’s education will be most successful and rewarding if there is a mutual understanding between parents and staff.
To support our work we ask all Parents to sign a Home School Agreement. There are also simple home activities and homework. Parents are requested to encourage the child at home with reading, maths games, word games and eventually spelling tasks.
A regular routine for homework based on ‘little and often’ makes a significant difference to children’s confidence and progress.
A Newsletter is sent home each half term informing parents of forthcoming events and activities and there are several formal opportunities for parent/teacher confidential interviews, as well as a written report at the end of the academic year. Newsletters can be sent electronically and daily events are regularly 'tweeted'.
Parents are always welcome and we invite them to work alongside teachers, accompany visits, support school ventures and communicate with school. Parent notice boards are available in the front and rear playgrounds. Our Learning Platform (VLE ) supports communication between home and school and can be accessed via the school website when your child starts school.
A parent group meets each term to organise social and money raising events. Their support is highly appreciated. They have contributed substantially to the quality of school life providing new outdoor equipment and additional opportunities for children through fundraising events. Meetings are very informal and all are welcome.
Parents' Meetings are outlined on the Newsletter
The Head teacher will be pleased to supply detailed information about the school. If a formal appointment is required, a telephone call is needed. Every effort will be made to meet requests by parents to visit a particular time, subject to the organisational and educational needs of the school.
A holiday list is sent at the beginning of each year for your convenience. This information is also posted on our website.
All stakeholders, staff, parents & children are valued in our school. Parents are an important part of school.
We have been awarded an ‘Investors in People’ Award.
