In our teaching of Mathematics we aim to promote the understanding of mathematical concepts as well as improve skills. Children should be able to apply mathematical knowledge and understanding in real life situations as well as develop a proficiency in mathematical reasoning and problem solving. Children spend a minimum of one hour per day working on maths in keeping with ‘year group expectations’ and developing their understanding of concepts in number, calculation, shape, space, money, measure, algebra and graphical representation. They are taught to apply increasingly complex skills, vocabulary and strategies to solve problems.
